The National New York Central Railroad Museum was founded in 1987 in Elkhart, Indiana, a natural home for the museum because its railyard is among America's largest. Through the decades the New York Central line has run between New York and Chicago, with Elkhart serving as a key switching station. The design is a contemporary take on a more historic design aesthetic. The two icons highlighted are the Chicago Board of Trade, which overlooks the LaSalle Street Station in Chicago, and the 4085 engine, the centerpiece in the Museum's trainyard.
